Earth Continuity Test for PAT Testing

What is the Earth Continuity Test.

This is a test for Class I appliances to check the Earth connection between the earth pin on a Plug to the case of the appliance.

This is to reduce the risk of an electric shock should the appliance becomes faulty.

The Earth Continuity test is also know as an Earth Bond or Resistance test.

To Test the Earth Continuity there must be an Earth Wire present in the Mains Plug. The plug is then inserted into the PAT Tester, with the Earth Bond lead connected to the metal case.

The Earth Continuity Test is then applied. To pass the reading must be 0.1Ω or less + the power supply cable.

Record the Results

Pass if Earth Continuity reading is 0.1Ω or less + Power supply cable.
