What is the Insulation Resistance Test.
The Insulation Resistance test is carried out as part of PAT Testing. This checks there is enough insulation between the live parts of the appliance and the metal parts which are touchable. 

The Insulation Resistance Test is done for Class 1 and 2 Appliances. The Pass rate for Class 1 is 1 Million + Ohms and 2 Million + for Class 2.

To Carry out an Insulation Resistance test the Appliance must be switched on.

The cables are checked for any damage and wires must be connected in the plug before the Insulation Resistance test takes place.

Make sure Live, Neutral and Earth are Connected in Plug

Connect plug to PAT Tester

Switch Appliance on

Select Insulation Resistance Test

Pass if Class 1 Appliance is 1 M Ohm or more

Pass if Class 2 Appliance is 2 M Ohm or more
