Order of PAT Testing - What We Actually Do

  1. Visual Inspection - Appliance, plug and lead checked for damage, cracks, burn marks.
  2. Open Every Plug - Unless sealed, we open it. We check wiring is correct - Live, Neutral, Earth in right terminals.
  3. Check Every Fuse - Fuse rating checked and replaced if incorrect - e.g. 3A for lamp, 13A for heater. Many fails are just wrong fuse.
  4. Tighten Every Screw Terminal - Loose terminals cause overheating - we tighten all.
  5. Tighten Cord Grip - Ensures cable can't pull out.
  6. Check Lead For Damage - Cuts, nicks, exposed copper.
  7. Test Continuity of Protective Earth - For Class 1 appliances - ensures earth path is good.
  8. Test Insulation and Leakage - Ensures no shock risk.
  9. Load Test - Checks appliance draws correct current.
  10. Record All Results - Including test values digitally.
  11. E-mail Results and PAT Testing certificate within 12 hours.
